Meet Rudy, The Founder of RENU Renovations LLC. Rudy is passionate about the details, staying current on installation processes, material quality, and available material options. He has a deep commitment to Honesty, Transparency and Integrity. One of the goals for RENU has been to give each Client a summary of all the experience and knowledge that has been gained from years past and current projects in the field. This knowledge translates in you making a decision that gives you the highest value. Rudy started RENU Renovations LLC in 2014 as a small family owned business. Since the time he was very young, he has always enjoyed building, and creating things. His Father was a builder, and so grew up around building and power tools etc. At the early age of 11 he was building miniature log home birdhouses, as well as small animal shelters and would sell them along the road where they lived. As he grew, some by nature, and some with the coaching of his Father, he developed an eye for seeing things that were not as they should be in the industry, always looking for and finding better ways to do things, better products, exploring product and design weaknesses. This took him through several building and roofing jobs, with various positions from apprentice to crew foreman. This experience left much dissatisfaction with what was possible, and what was left undone. Things that would be OK for the first 10-15 years but were nearly guaranteed to cause premature structure or roof failure. At this early point, these cut corners will turn into a very expensive repair, or in many cases a full replacement. As many roofing contractors know, pushing through jobs quickly, even at the expense of quality, is the most profitable way to do business. RENU Renovations LLC has decided instead to individualize each project, taking the entire system into consideration. For instance, finding solutions for ventilation. Over 90% of American homes are not properly vented, this leads to nail pops, mold, warped and delaminated sheeting, plus high temperatures in attics, which shortens shingle life, and also voids the manufactures warranty. Also instead of painting over the rusty furnace and hot water heater vents, they should be replaced with new flashing flange, final pipe section, cap and collar.
So, he put together a team of men with integrity, that had a vision to do things to a higher standard, more attention to the details and use the best long-term value, highest quality products we could find. This created a cost factor for the end user. As with any penetration through the roof, care needs to be taken, using the correct materials and workmanship to make a leak free experience. We Use VELUX Skylights, installing Ice and water guard around them first. Next we use the tape system that is supplied with the sold separately flashing kit. Lastly we install the flashing kit along with the step flashing as each shingle goes into place. This is the only way to achieve the warranty from VELUX
A Quality roof begins with one of the most overlooked aspects of a roof system, the deck. This begins with a rafter system that is at the very least, of code compliant specs, with adequate beams, or other support underneath to eliminate sags. These sags can and do at times cause water to travel horizontally on the shingles. Inadequate slope is also an issue that arises quite frequently.
After many years of roof inspections, I have concluded that a major component that often causes roof failure in 12-20 years is the foundation of the roof, which is the rafter system and decking. Since this is covered with the Synthetic Underlayment and shingles, it can be covered for a time, but the issues show up eventually, often with a big price ticket attached. Code and shingle manufacture warranty requirements state that decks must be a smooth surface, and have no gaps over 1/8". By code building specs, gaps up to 1/4" can be repaired with an additional layer of heavyweight underlayment, to help it span, but anything over 1/4" MUST be repaired. This means replacing deck material and not slapping on aluminum pieces. These specifications mean that installing shingles on planked decking is VERY rarely an option. Around 5% of planked deck meet this, the other 95% always needs sheeted with 1/2" OSB by fastening to the rafters with 3" ring shank galvanized nails. There is a strong argument for the loose nails in even the 5%, if you want to achieve longevity and a roof that will stand the duration of time. Installing this layer of solid decking also eliminates the potential for those old, loose nails to push up through the new shingles. This is a step that the majority, of roofers I have seen working on projects have skipped, meaning the CERTIFIED Install warranty you thought you were getting is void the day the roofer leaves.

Custom Porch Build
My client for this particular project was Interested in replacing a low slope side porch that was continually a maintenance nightmare. She also wanted to match the accents on the other end of the house. We were able to meet her expectations by using rot resistant Cypress posts and rails, and a white washed cypress ceiling. We added Velux skylights and during the process the Client found a track system screen, and stainless cable system that she wanted, by communicating and working together throughout the whole process, we were able to ensure she were satisfied with the outcome.
